The Book Vault Book Club met on March 21, 2018, at a member’s house. We had to reschedule from March 14 due to snowy and slippery roads.
We discussed the book, “The Alienst”, by Caleb Carr. This is an historical crime thriller, that takes place in 1896 NYC, and includes many famous figures of society, including Theodore Roosevelt, and J.P. Morgan.   The alienst, known as a psychologist today, helped to solve murders by a serial killer.
Four of us read the book in full, and three didn’t finish it. The four that read the entire book liked the historical part of the story, as well as the author’s writing style.   Some of us felt that there was too much psychoanalyzing of the characters.
Our next read will be lighter. We chose the mystery “My Italian Bulldozer”, by Alexander McCall Smith. We will meet on Wed. May 2.
